Bad Breath Testing

Smelling your animals breath is a great way for realizing that they are need of dental care. If the smell is really bad and is accompanied by a loss of appetite, vomitting or excessive drinking you must take your animal to the vet immediately.

Periodontal Disease

Just like humans, periodontal disease is the inflammation of the tooths structure. Periodontal disease is most common in animals because pet owners do not take the time to schedule dental appointments for their pets and also a routined home cleaning. Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria that forms on the tooth. A pellicle forms on the tooth and attracts aerobic gram. Shortly after this is done the bacteria then forms into plaque causing the plaque to eat away at the structures that are on and around the tooth. This causes periodontal disease. MIcroscopic lesions have been found affecting livers, kidney's and brains in various animals. There are signs for periodontal disease. The main signs are inflamation and gingival bleeding upon probing. Your dog or cat could also experience pain throughout the mouth. Knowing that animals are unable to talk it is always the best way to check on your animal and to schedule monthly check ups with your vet.
